We recently completed a 10-month project with Civic Nebraska to help develop the leadership capacity of the rapidly growing nonprofit organization. Civic Nebraska works to create a more modern and robust democracy for all Nebraskans (check out their work and sweet logo here: www.civicnebraska.org). Executive Director, Adam Morefeld, recognized the need for a formal leadership development program as a new layer of senior leaders were identified to manage the growing staff.
Training efforts are designed to have impact by changing behaviors, improving skills, and introducing new approaches. Often, though, we find that one of the most consequential outcomes is a simple one – more clear and consistent messaging. These are unprecedented and unpredictable times for our public health and our economy. There are some forecasts that paint a very bleak outlook for both. Sometimes, it’s hard to stop reading the news articles because the scope of the crisis is almost too big to fathom. All the while, none of us can predict how the pandemic will impact our families, daily lives, our company, or the country as a whole. I’m guessing that we’ve all experienced fear and worry over the past few days.
Many organizations and teams are quickly working to adapt to working in remote teams. Vivayic has been a remote team from our founding in 2006. We now have 33 employees in 11 states working with more than 50 clients across the country – we feel pretty confident in our experience in planning and facilitating virtual meetings and training events.

Last week, I viewed a webinar on the topic of complexity in learning. Even though I’ve worked in this field for more than 20 years, I always seek out new perspectives and ideas. The webinar was hosted by a national thought leader and was well-done, professional, and useful — to a point.
Over the years, science has deepened our understanding of the different facets of happiness. We know that there are universal mood boosters such as fresh air, bright colors, laughter, and time spent with positive people. Recently, we’ve learned about the power happiness has over our immune system and chronic pain. But, what about giving? Sure, we know giving can increase our sense of purpose, but how does it affect our happiness?
If you’ve seen our Learning Solutions Model, you know how we do things. Before we jump into building the learning experience, we seek clarity. We also work with the client to proactively plan and evaluate the utility of the learning. When considering utility, one of the many questions we ask is, “How will we support implementation and drive utilization?”
At Vivayic, we hold a strong commitment to our values, purpose, and operating principles in our core. Of these, our purpose — building others’ capacity to do good in the world — seems to resonate most deeply with our team and clients. We wanted a tangible visualization of our purpose. That led to the creation of the Global Good sculpture that you see on this website.
