The past eight weeks have exposed how much organizations rely on an in-person approach to training and development. As we talk with our clients we hear that they are concerned about creating sub-par substitutes for the original learning experience. They are also concerned with the number of programs and experiences that have been cancelled. There will be a lasting cost to this pandemic in the loss of talent and skill development for a lot of organizations.

We recently completed a 10-month project with Civic Nebraska to help develop the leadership capacity of the rapidly growing nonprofit organization. Civic Nebraska works to create a more modern and robust democracy for all Nebraskans (check out their work and sweet logo here: www.civicnebraska.org). Executive Director, Adam Morefeld, recognized the need for a formal leadership development program as a new layer of senior leaders were identified to manage the growing staff.
Training efforts are designed to have impact by changing behaviors, improving skills, and introducing new approaches. Often, though, we find that one of the most consequential outcomes is a simple one – more clear and consistent messaging. These are unprecedented and unpredictable times for our public health and our economy. There are some forecasts that paint a very bleak outlook for both. Sometimes, it’s hard to stop reading the news articles because the scope of the crisis is almost too big to fathom. All the while, none of us can predict how the pandemic will impact our families, daily lives, our company, or the country as a whole. I’m guessing that we’ve all experienced fear and worry over the past few days.
Many organizations and teams are quickly working to adapt to working in remote teams. Vivayic has been a remote team from our founding in 2006. We now have 33 employees in 11 states working with more than 50 clients across the country – we feel pretty confident in our experience in planning and facilitating virtual meetings and training events.
